On Saturday, February 25, just a couple of days before the start of Great Lent, the Annunciation Cathedral hosted it's "Feed 10,000 Initiative," in partnership and cooperation with "Rise Against Hunger." Rise Against Hunger is a non-profit organization that seeks to end world hunger by "empowering communities, nourishing lives and responding to emergencies." The Cathedral community, in recognizing that it is our Christian vocation to love and care for our neighbors, heard Rise Against Hunger's call, and immediately sought a way to help!
Over 45 volunteers joined in the Cathedral's packaging event that prepared simple yet nutritional meals to be shipped overseas to those with little or nothing to eat. Volunteers consisted of individuals of all ages, who helped prepare, seal, and package the meals. A tremendous amount of fun was had by all, as music and dancing helped bolster our energy to complete the task. At the end of the event, it was announced that the Cathedral community had prepared and packaged enough food to feed a total of 10,156 people!
In addition to helping prepare and package food, the Cathedral community provided a donation of $4,443 dollars to cover the cost of both the food prepared and the transportation needed to get to its destination.
We thank all those who have donated both their time and resources to helping make this initiative a HUGE success!
